Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Grayslake firefighters and paramedics were dispatched about 8:15 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021, to Highland Lake, 34481 North Circle Drive, Unincorporated Round Lake to a report that a 42-year-old man of Chicago went into the northwest side of the lake but did not resurface.

Man Dies After Rescue from Highland Lake in Unincorporated Round Lake
Multiple fire agencies arrived to search the water for the man. He was pulled from the water, unconscious, and transported via ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, in critical condition.
A MABAS Division 4 Box Alarm #27-69 to the Second Level for a water rescue was activated by Grayslake in the block of 34400 North Circle Drive at 8:45 a.m.
Firefighters, paramedics, sonar techs, divers and/or command officers from Barrington, Antioch, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Countryside, Fox Lake, Great Lake, Gurnee, Lake Forest, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, McHenry, Mundelein, Round Lake, Wauconda, Waukegan, and Zion were assigned to the scene.
Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers Antioch, Beach Park, Buffalo Grove, Great Lake, Gurnee, and Lake Villa were assigned to stand by in Grayslake fire stations.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and determined the 42-year-old man was going to take a canoe into the middle of the lake. Before he could get inside the canoe, the canoe started floating away from a pier he was launching from. The man jumped into the water to try and retrieve the canoe, but he did not resurface after getting in. The man was not wearing a life vest.
Although foul-play is not suspected, sheriff’s detectives are investigating.
