Facebook is experiencing a worldwide outage that began about 10:16 a.m. CDT on Monday, October 4, 2021. Facebook posted on Twitter saying, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
There may be DNS issues that are affecting other Internet services as well. Problems were also indicated at YouTube, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Twitter and other services, but initially only Facebook seemed to suffer a near total or total outage.
Initially it was not certain if the other services actually had problems or whether there were false reports from individuals reporting outages. For example, someone could report they are having trouble with their T-Mobile phone, when they are actually merely having a problem using their Facebook app on their T-Mobile phone because of the outage related to Facebook.
Web infrastructure company Cloudflare did not indicate any problem via their Twitter account as of 12:55 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2021.
