Algonquin police officers responded about 10:53 a.m. October 27, 2021 to a report of suspicious person at the Holiday Inn Express, 2595 Bunker Hill Drive in Algonquin. During their investigation, officers discovered that a guest of the hotel that wanted to change the name he registered at the hotel was wanted on a felony arrest warrant. The hotel guest was identified as LaBurron Jackson, age 37, with a last known address in Chicago, and a parolee with absconder status with the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Officers attempted to contact Jackson; however, he refused to answer the door of his hotel room and indicated that he would resist officer’s attempts to take him into custody. At that time, it was unknown whether LaBurron Jackson was armed. Members of the Algonquin Police Department secured the scene and Jackson was contained to his hotel room. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Department SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Team responded and assisted with tactical operations and negotiations.
Due to the close proximity of the incident location to H.D. Jacobs High School across Golden Eagle Drive, the CUSD 300 administration was contacted and informed of the incident. At no time during this incident was the safety of the students’ in jeopardy. There was a lockdown, but students were dismissed from their regular schedule after 9th period at 2:58 p.m.
McHenry County SWAT negotiators and social workers spoke with Jackson for several hours in an attempt to persuade LaBurron Jackson to surrender himself. When those negotiations resulted in Jackson’s repeated refusal to surrender himself, chemical irritants were deployed into the room by members of McHenry County SWAT. At 8:12 p.m., which was nine hours and 19 minutes after dispatch of the call, Jackson was taken into custody for an arrest warrant for Parole Violation – Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. Jackson was provided medical attention for his exposure to the chemical irritants. Further charges against Jackson are pending.
When officers attempted to contact the guest, who is wanted a felony arrest warrant, he refused to answer the door of his hotel room and “indicated” that he would resist arrest, the Algonquin Police Department said. https://t.co/frzwnpYisl
