President Joe Biden has canceled plans to visit Chicago and Elk Grove Village Wednesday afternoon, September 29, 2021. Biden instead is scheduled to work in Washington D.C. to focus on the infrastructure bill and economic package.
President Biden has been working with members of Congress to advance the Build Back Better Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal legislation. The trip to Chicago and Elk Grove Village will be rescheduled, according to the White House.
Biden is on the defense from criticism he is facing after testimony from military leaders on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 appears to reveal a contradiction of statements from Biden and military leaders. Apparently, Joe Biden misled the public in an August 2021 interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulous when he denied that military leaders warned him against removing troops from Afghanistan. Yesterday, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley and US Central Command leader Gen. Frank McKenzie both testified to Congress that they personally supported keeping a small number of troops past the withdrawal deadline. McKenzie said he recommended 2,500 troops stay in Afghanistan.
President Joe Biden was scheduled to speak at the construction site of the $123 million Microsoft data center campus in Elk Grove Village in the Elk Grove Technology Park between Higgins Road and Oakton Street west of Lively Boulevard. The president’s remarks on the importance of vaccination were scheduled to begin at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
Construction for the Microsoft Data Center began in February 2021 on a 37-acre plot. The Elk Grove Technology Park is also home to a T5 Data Centers facility with 164,000 square feet of space and a ceiling clearance of 33 feet. The T5 Data Center includes a capability of 27.6 MW of critical IT power load. The technology park has its own ComEd substation at the site of a former Elk Grove Village fire station, and is near a large ComEd transmission line that already existed.
Internet services such as Amazon, Apple iCloud, Facebook, Netflix, Spotify and Twitter use data centers scattered around the world to provide “always on” storage and fast delivery of data for on-demand movies, music and other information services for businesses and consumers. Racks of servers are placed in large, clean warehouse buildings with reliable power, security and HVAC conditions.
Last Thursday, September 23, 2021 the White House announced that Joe Biden would be visiting Chicago on Wednesday to “highlight the importance of COVID-19 vaccine requirements for businesses.” However, Elk Grove Village was not initially mentioned as part of the president’s itinerary in Chicago.
On Thursday, September 9, 2021, Biden ordered that all federal workers and contractors get vaccinated, and that private employers with 100 or more employees require workers to be vaccinated or be tested weekly. Employers must also provide paid time off for vaccination appointments. The order is not yet in effect, and OSHA will be overseeing the mandates.
President Joe Biden also visited Illinois at McHenry County College on July 7, 2021, delivering remarks on infrastructure, an American Jobs Plan, and the American Families Plan.
