UPDATE …
Shell Casing Found at Lake Zurich High School then Social Media Threat Prompts Arrest of Student
According to the official Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 website, Lake Zurich High School was on Hard Lockdown, but according to their official Facebook page, the school was on Soft Lockdown, and the lockdown was lifted by 1:36 p.m.
Very poor practice in place by School District 95 because the alerts on the official school district are not time stamped, and initially alerts on the official Facebook page for the school district conflicted with the alerts on the official School District 95 website. Parents, relatives and students in the Lake Zurich High School community were confused Wednesday afternoon regarding whether the lockdown was modified from a soft lockdown to a hard lockdown or whether the soft lockdown was lifted. There was also confusion which type of lockdown actually existed or whether both types of lockdowns existed in progression or regression.
The lack of Date and Time stamps on alerts add confusion to the documentation, especially when a situation is in flux or continuous change requiring updates.
According to the official Facebook post from School District 95, “(a)fter an investigation was completed by the LZHS administration and the Lake Zurich Police Department, no threat to the school was identified. The soft lockdown has been lifted. Students will return to classes in a revised schedule in order to accommodate those who missed lunch due to the soft lockdown. We appreciate our partnership with the Lake Zurich Police Department who will continue to be onsite for the remainder of the day.”

PREVIOUS COMMUNICATION. [NO TIME STAMP]
Dear Lake Zurich High School Families,
In an abundance of caution, we have placed the high school on a soft lock down. NO THREAT has been reported, nor has any weapon been found, however a shell casing was reportedly found on campus. As a standard response, while we investigate, students and staff will remain in a soft lockdown. This means instruction will still continue; however, students will remain in their assigned location, and no visitors will be allowed on or off campus at this time. Please also know that the Lake Zurich Police Department is working with us. We will communicate with you again once additional information is available. Please do not go to the school at this time.
Sincerely,
Erin DeLuga
Principal
