Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 7:15 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2021 to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle at Thomas Street and Hickory Avenue in Arlington Heights.
Police and firefighter/paramedics on arrival discovered an adult female down and unconscious with serious injuries near the eastbound side of Thomas Street near Hickory Avenue. The woman was apparently hit by a vehicle, but no vehicle was at the scene. The woman was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital with serious injuries.
Police officers closed Thomas Street between Douglas Avenue and Hickory Avenue and began an investigation. Police were able to determine that a female student driving on her way to John Hersey High School hit the woman.
Police are investigating statements made by the high school student, and initially it is unknown whether any charges were filed. The Speed Limit on Thomas Street is 30 MPH, according to a Google Street image captured August 2019.
Thomas Street was re-opened about 9:00 a.m. The MCAT-STAR (Major Case Assistance Team – Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction) was not assigned to this case.
