Earlier this year, an employee at a towing company with an automotive service shop and a body shop in Arlington Heights worked at the business for only seven days and then quit on a Friday. The following Monday, the business noticed that two expensive automotive SATA paint spray guns, valued at about $1000 each, were missing. A dedicated employee on his own initiative randomly searched online to see if he could find some used spray guns to replace the stolen spray guns. One of the searches landed on the Facebook page of Adrian Montiel, where two SATA spray guns were offered for sale. Allegedly, the two spray guns were the same spray guns stolen from the business where Montiel had worked. Adrian Montiel, the employee that had just quit his job, allegedly posted the stolen equipment on Facebook within days after the spray guns were stolen.
Hillside Towing, 120 West University Drive in Arlington Heights, the business where the spray guns were stolen, reported the findings to the Arlington Heights Police Department. The Arlington Heights Police Department assigned detectives to investigate the case, and police arrested Adrian Montiel, age 25, for felony theft on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 10:55 a.m. Arlington Heights police charged Adrian Montiel with Theft — obtain/exerts control over property of the owner … 720 ILCS 5/16-1(a)(2)(A).
Arlington Heights Police Department did not provide the arrest location for Adrian Montiel, and did not provide the suspect’s residence or home town.
Adrian Montiel’s next court date is Friday, September 24, 2021 at Rolling Meadows Cook County Circuit Court Room 108.
All suspects are considered innocent until convicted in criminal court.
