John Buckley, age 57, of the block of 2400 Thornberry Drive in Plainfield, turned himself in to Fox Lake police Monday, August 23, 2021 for his alleged responsibility for a fatal DUI crash that occurred on Saturday, June 5, 2021 in Fox Lake. He was transported to Lake County jail, according to the Fox Lake Police Department.
John Buckley was charged with DUI and Reckless Homicide.
Police report that John Buckley was speeding southbound on Route 12 in his Infinity SUV when he attempted to turn onto westbound Big Hollow Road but lost control of the SUV and entered an oncoming lane.
Buckley struck the driver’s-side of a 2017 GMC Acadia while the driver was stopped at a red light. Three other vehicles were also struck in the crash, which occurred about 6:00 p.m. The driver of the Acadia was 72-year-old Stephen Kaman of Fontana, Wisconsin. Kaman died from injuries suffered in the crash, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger in the GMC was transported Northwestern Medicine Hospital McHenry with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were initially reported.
Buckley’s blood alcohol content analyzed five hours after the crash was 0.117, which is above the .08 threshold of intoxication in Illinois.
John Buckley’s bail was set at $500,000, and John Buckley posted 10% of his $500,000.00 bond Monday evening, August 23, 2021 just after 6:00 p.m.
The Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County and the Lake County Coroner’s Office assisted the Fox Lake Police Department with the investigation of the June 5, 2021 crash.
