McHenry police received a report about 1:25 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2021 of shots fired from one vehicle to another near the intersection of Bull Valley Road and Route 31 in McHenry.
Initially there were no reports of anyone struck by any bullets, and no other injuries were reported.
Police received reports that an unknown offender in the back of a red Jeep Compass was shooting an AR-15 at another motorist in a silver car that was traveling behind the red Jeep Compass. Police also received a report that a fender was falling off the Jeep Compass, which was last seen headed eastbound on Bull Valley Road from Route 31 toward the Fox River and Moraine Hills State Park.
Bullet casings were discovered at the intersection, and about 50 evidence markers were placed on the street surface at the intersection.
McHenry Police Department is investigating the shots fired incident crime scene at Bull Valley Road/Charles J. Miller Memorial Highway and Illinois Route 31, which is located near Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital. The shooting scene is also less than 1800 feet southwest of the McHenry City Police Department headquarters at 333 South Green Street in McHenry.
