The Fox Lake Fire Protection District announced at 9:05 a.m. Sunday, August 22, 2021 that the body of a deceased person was recovered from Fox Lake. Recovery operations began shortly after 7:30 a.m. Sunday for the third consecutive day.
Fox Lake Fire Protection District announced on Saturday that they were searching on Fox Lake, basically off Lippincott Point north to an area just south of Crabapple Island, and asked that all boat traffic please avoid the area Saturday so that the crews and equipment can be used to search safely, and so that the sonar equipment being used could operate without disturbance. Lippincott Point is located almost directly south of Crabapple Island at a distance of a about 3,000 feet at the southeast region of Fox Lake.
On Sunday about 7:30 a.m. Fox Lake Fire Protection District thanked those among the public who offered assistance and good wishes, saying the firefighters were overwhelmed by the support from the community.
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Fox Lake responded about 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2021 to a water rescue incident with a report of a male that was missing in the Fox Lake south of Crabapple Island in Fox Lake. The initial report was that a man in his 20s jumped from a pontoon boat, went under water, and did not re-surface, according to a report from other people that were on the pontoon boat. The people were using the boat recreationally for tubing on the lake. Two children that were tubing were wearing life vests. The missing man had not been wearing a life vest.
Rescuers and divers were staging at Fam’s on the Chain at 112 Lakeview in Fox Lake.
A MABAS Division 4 Box Alarm #22-69 was activated to the Second Level at 10:48 a.m.
Firefighters, paramedics, divers and/or command officers from Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Crystal Lake, Great Lakes, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Nunda, Waukegan, Woodstock, and Zion were assigned to the scene.
The rescue operation transitioned to a recovery operation at about 12:20 p.m. Friday, and Illinois Department of Conservation Police Department is leading the investigation.
A Third Alarm was activated early Saturday morning as search with sonar equipment resumed during the day Saturday.
Fire dispatch reported WGN helicopter Skycam 9 was in the area, and incident command asked the WGN helicopter crew for assistance with an aerial search of the Fox Lake area.
NBC Sky 5 was also in the area.
