Starting on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 water main replacement and road resurfacing construction will start on Thomas Street between Belmont Avenue and Dryden Avenue. Thomas Rd will be closed to through traffic from Belmont Avenue to Dryden Avenue in Arlington Heights.
Residents in this area will still have access to their driveways unless notified twenty-four hours in advance.
The project is expected to be completed by September 17, 2021.
An Arlington Heights Police Department electronic sign is placed at Thomas Middle School near Thomas Street and Belmont Avenue in Arlington Heights, and near Dryden Avenue and Thomas Street.
Residents who live along Olive Street, Lynnwood Avenue, Maude Avenue, Belmont Avenue, Douglas Avenue, and Dryden Avenue should be on safety alert for motorists on recommended and non-recommended detours nearby, especially with the start of school at John Hersey High School, Thomas Middle School, Olive Mary-Stitt Elementary School, St Peter Lutheran School, and Saint James School begin before road construction ends.
According to the Village of Arlington Heights, the project was under design in the fall of 2020 with anticipation of construction in early June 2021 when school was on summer break. Unfortunately, permit delays with Cook County and material shortages delayed the start until Tuesday, July 20 or Wednesday, July 21, 2021.
