Illinois State Police, and firefighters and paramedics from Chicago responded about 5:33 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2021 to a report of a motorcyclist down on I-94 WEST Edens Expressway near Wilson Avenue and near the Kennedy-Edens split in Chicago.
A male motorcyclist was discovered dead at the scene by Illinois State Police troopers and Chicago police officers. Chicago Fire Department paramedics pronounced the crash victim deceased at the scene.
The male motorcyclist was identified as Arthur De La Cruz, age 48, of Arlington Heights.
Arthur De La Cruz was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle north on the Edens Expressway (Interstate 94 WEST) at Wilson Avenue about 5:30 a.m. when he swerved onto the left shoulder and struck a bridge pillar. Arthur De La Cruz was ejected from his motorcycle, which came to rest several feet down the road from the crash scene.
All expressway lanes were shut down and motorists were redirected off the Edens Expressway at Wilson Avenue while an Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Officer investigated the crash.
Two expressway lanes were re-opened at 7:15 a.m., and all lanes were reopened by 8:00 a.m.
