Police, firefighters and paramedics from Calumet City responded about 5:30 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 to a report of an apartment fire at the Sandridge Apartments in the block of 0-99 158th Place in Calumet City.
Upon arrival firefighters reported fire showing, and several people were in need of rescue. Fire crews went to work, and the rescue sector helped at least six people get out of the apartment building. Four residents required oxygen treatment when they were found suffering from smoke inhalation. They were transported to area hospitals.
Calumet City Mayor Thaddeus Jones responded to the scene and told Captured News the residents who were displaced will be relocated by property management. Several residents lost many of their belongings in the blaze. The Red Cross is also assisting residents displaced by the apartment fire.
