Police from Hoffman Estates responded about 7:01 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021 to a report of an altercation involving a male and a tow truck operator in the block of 700 Bode Circle in Hoffman Estates.
Upon arrival police learned that a male motorist allegedly lifted up his shirt to brandish a firearm when the tow truck operator was attempting to tow his vehicle. The motorist fled before police arrived, but police were able to locate him.
Police were able to locate and identify Louis Keegan, age 23, of Rockford, connected to the vehicle that was being towed. Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Nicole Murphy stated in court Wednesday, June 16, 2021 that Louis Keegan attempted to take a Hoffman Estates police officer’s firearm when they were making an arrest. Keegan had also initially refused to identify himself to Hoffman Estates police officers and attempted to flee. Louis Keegan is accused of using his size as an advantage to take two police officers to the ground. Keegan then grabbed the handle of one officer’s firearm, which was secured in a police officer’s holster, according to Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Nicole Murphy. During Keegan’s resistance, several police officers were injured with minor scratches.
After receiving permission from Keegan’s “significant other,” Hoffman Estates police officers recovered a semi-automatic pistol from a clothes basket inside an apartment near the arrest location, which was not specified.
Louis H. Keegan, 23, is charged with disarming a peace officer, aggravated resisting a peace officer, possession of a defaced firearm, and aggravated assault. If convicted of the most serious charge, Keegan faces up to seven years in prison, but probation is also an option. Keegan was ordered held with NO BOND. His next court date in Cook County Circuit Court in Rolling Meadows is Friday, July 2, 2021.
