Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Mount Prospect and Des Plaines responded about 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021 to a report of a pedestrian in a wheel chair hit by a vehicle in the block of 1300 South Elmhurst Road or near the area between Kathleen Drive and Millers Road near the border of Mount Prospect and Des Plaines. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.
Des Plaines Fire Department paramedics transported the victim with serious injuries to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The vehicle was described as a black or dark green Mazda (actually a Chevrolet) with a broken windshield. The driver was described as a male/black with dreadlocks. The vehicle and suspect were last seen southbound on Elmhurst Road.
Police located the suspect and vehicle by 2:38 p.m. at an undisclosed location. Later in the evening, the Mount Prospect Police Department announced that the vehicle and the suspect were found in an apartment complex near Elmhurst Road and Oakton Street. In the evening (6:30 p.m. Wednesday) Mount Prospect Police Department described the offender’s vehicle as a Chevrolet.
Mount Prospect Police Department is investigating the hit-and-run crash, and the southbound lanes of Elmhurst Road remained closed at 5:30 p.m.
