Man injured in car fire at car wash on South Elmhurst Road, Mount Prospect. YouTube Tips ⓘ
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Mount Prospect responded about 10:48 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021 to a report of a vehicle fire with a person injured outside America’s Best Car Wash, 2000 South Elmhurst Road in Mount Prospect.
Firefighters were updated that the vehicle fire was near the car wash building, and the fire department response was updated to a building fire response as a precaution at 10:54 a.m.
Employees at America’s Best Car Wash attempted to extinguish the vehicle fire, and helped an adult male that was injured during the fire.
Three male employees and/or bystanders at the Auto Service Mall carried the injured man away from his burning car that was parked in a self-service area outside the building. The driver of a 1970s model Mercedes sedan or coupe was lying down on the ground, and several people assisted the man, as paramedics arrived.
When firefighters arrived the vehicle was also fully involved with flames. Engine 12’s crew reported seeing a fully-involved car fire, and reported they were pulling a hose line to work to extinguish the fire.
Paramedics assessed and treated the male driver of the vehicle and transported him to a local hospital. His condition was not initially known.
Firefighters and police were investigating the fire late morning and early afternoon.
