Criminal Sexual Assault at Lake Barrington Business
Prosecutors said in court Thursday, May 20, 2021 that a male suspect, Ryan Storm, age 20, of Palatine, kidnapped, sexually assaulted and beat a 20-year old woman that he knows in Lake Barrington after speaking with her in a Palatine parking lot.
In a bond hearing conducted Thursday via Zoom and streamed with audio only, Assistant Lake County State’s Attorney Tara Ferrari said Ryan Storm met up with the woman in a Palatine parking lot, where they spoke for about 30 minutes late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.
When the woman attempted to leave, Storm grabbed her from behind and tried to kiss her, according to Ferrari. Ryan Storm pinned her and grabbed her neck, which made her lose consciousness, according to Ferrari.
Storm then dragged the female victim to his car and drove to a business in Lake Barrington in the block of 28000 Commercial Avenue, just northeast of US 14 and Pepper Road. While Storm was driving to the business, the woman regained consciousness and attempted to grab the steering wheel, according to Ferrari.
Storm then pulled his vehicle to the side of the road, hit the woman in the face, choked her, and threatened to snap her neck.
The woman lost consciousness again and awoke bound to a fork lift in what she thought was a warehouse or garage. According to police, the woman was found battered and bound to a piece of heavy equipment inside a business believed to be Storm’s workplace in the block of 28000 Commercial Avenue in Lake Barrington.
Storm cut off the woman’s clothes with a box cutter and hit her repeatedly with a wooden object, and urinated on her. While she was attached to the forklift, she raised her into the air with the forklift.
The woman heard someone outside and began to scream. Storm threatened her, saying that if she kept screaming, he would snap her neck, according to Ferrari.
Apparently the same person entered the building and Storm fled the scene.
According to police accounts released Wednesday, the person entered the Lake Barrington business on Commercial Avenue at about 2:00 a.m., after receiving a phone call from Ryan Storm between after midnight Wednesday morning that seemed strange. The person decided to check on Storm’s well-being by going to his workplace.
Also on Wednesday, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2021 to the block of 28000 Commercial Avenue, Lake Barrington, for a possible sexual assault in progress.
A 9-1-1 caller reported he was checking the well-being of Ryan Storm, 20, of the 500 block of West Gilbert Road, Palatine. The strange call from Ryan Storm prompted the 9-1-1 caller to check Storm’s well-being at Storm’s place of work at a business on Commercial Avenue.
When the caller went inside the business to check on Storm, Storm fled out a door. The caller observed a nude woman bound to a piece of heavy equipment. The woman, age 20, had been battered and was the victim of a sexual assault.
The victim was transported by paramedics to an area hospital and is recovering. Initial investigation Wednesday, May 19, 2021 revealed Storm was responsible for holding the victim against her will, tying her down, and sexually assaulting her.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and K-9 units from the Lake & McHenry County Sheriff’s Offices spent several hours searching for Storm. Shortly after 8:00 a.m., information was developed indicating that Ryan Storm was in Fox River Grove, attempting to avoid apprehension. Members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Fox River Grove Police, Cary Police, Barrington Police, and Barrington Hills Police Departments checked Ski Hill Road, where Storm had been spotted.
A Fox River Grove police officer observed Storm running in the 900 block of Ski Hill Road northwest of the ski jumps at the Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove.
