Illinois State Police and firefighters and paramedics from Chicago responded about 12:08 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021 to a report of a person shot at I-290 WEST on the Austin Boulevard ramp in Chicago.
Illinois State Police on arrival discovered that a 27 year-old male was fatally shot while driving on the outbound Eisenhower Expressway at the Austin Boulevard off ramp.
The man was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Loyola Medical Center in Maywood where he was pronounced dead. A 29-year-old male passenger in the vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, and a 19-year-old male passenger was not injured, according to police.
There was a report of a male/black subject with blood on his shirt running eastbound from the scene. Illinois State Police, Oak Park Police Department and Chicago Police Department were searching for the subject in Columbus Park and other areas. The crime scene was located near the Columbus Park Lagoon, Loretto Hospital, a Chicago Police Department substation at Austin Boulevard and Flournoy Street, the Austin neighborhood, and the Village of Oak Park.
The westbound exit ramp to Austin Boulevard was closed for about three hours Saturday morning during the investigation. Initially no suspects are in custody.
