The Palatine Police Department urges residents to educate themselves on gun handling and cleaning safety if they legally own a gun. Safe and secure storage is of paramount importance. Always check twice prior to cleaning any handgun to make sure it is unloaded, and always handle a gun as if it were loaded. There are many reputable handgun safety courses and instructors that can be of assistance. For more information about firearms in Illinois, visit the Illinois State Police website.
