The Frontier Days Board of Directors announced Thursday, May 27, 2021 that a carnival will operate July 1-5, 2021 at Recreation Park; however, no main stage entertainment will be scheduled. The board had announced on March 10, 2021 that the entire event would be postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Frontier Days organizers plan to contract North American Midway Entertainment to provide rides, carnival games, and food. Late Thursday night, North American Midway only named the the Rockford Speedway Fair, June 3-June 6, 2021 on their “Fairs & Events” list.
The carnival event will be operated in according with the guidelines of the Illinois Department of Public Health, included with the lifting of restrictions that would have restricted a carnival.
The Frontier Days Board of Directors are also considering expanding the carnival into the area to the south and west of the usual midway, since no stages or food and beer tents will be operated in that area for Summer 2021.
Details are apparently in the development phase, and as of late Thursday, May 27, 2021 there were no official announcements regarding the partial opening of Frontier Days with the carnival-only plans on their official website, Facebook page, or Twitter account. As of last Thursday, May 27, 2021, the last announcement was the entire postponement announcement on March 10, 2021 emphasizing the safety of the Red Shirts volunteers, the festival attendees, and vendors.
