Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Orland Park responded about 7:18 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2021 to an Activated Fire Alarm and a report of smoke in the building at LIFETIME Fitness, 16333 South La Grange Road in Orland Park. Initially no injuries were reported.
The initial report was that smoke was possibly coming from the laundry room. Haze and smoke were reported in both locker rooms, and the building was being evacuated by 7:20 p.m. Firefighters led out with a hand line at the rear of the building. Initial report was a small fire in a ceiling. Firefighters also stood by with a dry line near the child care area.
Firefighters performed a complete search on all floor of the building, and also checked HVAC Rooftop Units for any possible extension of fire. The LIFETIME Fitness building measures about 360 feet by 200 feet for each of two floors.
Fire command reported firefighters were chasing fire in a ceiling, and a Full Still Alarm was requested by 7:38 p.m. Initially, the cause and origin information was not available.
Firefighters, paramedics, and command officers from Crestwood, Frankfurt, Mokena, Palos Tinley, Tinley Park, were assigned to the scene for the Full Still Alarm.
Firefighters, paramedics, and command officers from Frankfurt, Homer, Lemont, Northwest Homer, North Palos, Palos Heights and others were assigned to stand by in Orland Park fire stations for the Full Still Alarm.
A MABAS Division 19 Box Alarm #6019 SOUTHEAST was activated at 8:07 p.m. Firefighters, paramedics, and command officers from Frankfurt, Homer, Mokena, New Lenox, Palos were assigned to the scene at LIFETIME Fitness.
Firefighters, paramedics, and command officers from Argonne, Country Club Hills, and Midlothian were assigned to Orland Park fire stations.
The Box Alarm was struck out at 8:43 p.m. with all assigned companies still working at 8:43 p.m.
