Yermín Mercedes hit four singles and one double Mercedes recorded the first hit of his major league career Friday night, April 2, 2021, when he hit a single into left center field against the Los Angeles Angels. With four more hits and a 1.000 Batting Average in 2021, Mercedes became the first player in Chicago White Sox history to record five hits in a first-time major league start. His batting bonanza prompted sportscaster Steve Stone to say “he has a body type that makes 75% of viewers say “I could probably do that”.

Yermín Mercedes played in the minor leagues and independent for a period beginning March 3, 2011 with Washington Nationals minor league team — the Dominican Summer League Nationals (DSL Nationals) located in Boca Chica, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Mercedes was released in 2013, played independent league in 2014, and played for the Baltimore Orioles minor league team — the Delmarva Shorebirds. He began playing for the Chicago White Sox minor league team — the Winston-Salem Dash — in 2018.
On August 1, 2020, Mercedes was called up to the major leagues, and grounded out as a pinch hitter for the White Sox on August 2, 2020 — his only shot for 2020. Then Good Friday, April 2, 2021 he got 5 hits with 5 at bats.
Loved this. Yermin Mercedes picks up his first big-league knock. Albert Pujols, with 3,236 hits on his HOF baseball card, flips him the ball and gives him some love. pic.twitter.com/cY7CENRxIc
