Police, firefighters and paramedics from Elk Grove Village responded about 10:02 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2021 to a report of a car under a semi-trailer truck in the westbound lanes of Higgins Road east of Commerce Drive in Elk Grove Village. Cook County Sheriff’s deputies also responded to the call.
Elk Grove Village firefighters on arrival reported one person in the car, and that crews were beginning extrication with an Elk Grove Township crew setting up a protective hose line.
Firefighter/paramedics worked with extrication tools to free a person from a crashed vehicle within about 20 minutes. The driver was extricated by 10:28 p.m. and transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
A dog in the car was not injured, and was cared for by an Elk Grove Village police officer. Initially, there was no confirmation whether there were other passengers in the car, and initially there was no report of any other injuries.
Higgins Road was closed between Commerce Drive and Richard Lane. Access to westbound Higgins Road was also blocked at Nicholas Boulevard. Eastbound Higgins Road was opened at about 10:50 p.m.
