CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced Wednesday, April 21, 2021 that a project of resurfacing Arlington Heights Road from Higgins Road (Illinois 72) in Elk Grove Village to Palatine Road in Arlington Heights will require daily, intermittent lane closures beginning Monday, May 3, 2021 (weather permitting).

The IDOT road project consists of resurfacing the 5-mile stretch of Arlington Heights Road (5.6 miles according Google Maps), including construction of new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps and installation of pedestrian push button posts at the intersections. Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction, which is expected to be completed in late October.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,300 miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Year One included approximately $2.7 billion of improvements statewide on 1,706 miles of highway, 128 bridges and 228 additional safety improvements.
