The Cook County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that an 18 year-old male and an 18 year-old female were shot Thursday, April 22, 2021 in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the block of 9600 Greenwood Avenue in unincorporated Des Plaines.
The 18 year-old male was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. He was identified as Erik Esquivel. The 18 year-old female victim, who was not initially identified, was shot in the arm. She was also transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition. Both victims were sitting in a car parked in the apartment parking lot when they were shot about 3:45 p.m.
Cook County Sheriff’s Police, and firefighters and paramedics from North Maine Fire Protection District responded about 3:46 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2021 to a report that two people were shot at an apartment at 9612 Greenwood Avenue in unincorporated Des Plaines.
Paramedics from North Maine Fire Protection District and Glenview Fire Department each transported an injured victim to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The shooting suspect is described as a male/Hispanic wearing a black knit cap, a black hoodie with an orange script on the chest, a black gaiter mask, black pants and armed with a handgun. The shooter approached the parked car, and shot into the car. A bullet hole was visible in a passenger door window of a red sedan. The shooter is reported to have fled in a tan “Jeep Cherokee” and was last seen southbound on Greenwood Avenue.
