Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Schaumburg responded about 3:13 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2021 to a report of smoke coming from the ceiling accompanied by a burning smell. Schaumburg firefighters on arrival reported nothing showing from the exterior of all sides of the building. Interior crews investigated from the front and rear of the building and reported a light haze in one of the aisles. Firefighters also went to the roof and investigated the rooftop HVAC units. Firefighters found a problem with one unit and shut it down. The smoke stopped and firefighters checked to make sure there was no extension of fire into the nearby roof.
The store was evacuated before firefighters arrived, but re-opened a short time after firefighters resolved the smoke source. A technician was responding immediately to repair the rooftop unit.
