Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Mount Prospect responded about 7:44 a.m. Sunday, March 7, 2021 to a report of a rollover crash with injuries at Rand Road and Central Road in Mount Prospect.
One vehicle was upside down and another vehicle was upright covered by a blue tarp. Three people in a white Honda were pronounced dead at the scene Sunday morning. The driver of the SUV — a gold Ford — was extricated and transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocated Lutheran General Hospital
The MCAT-STAR (Major Case Assistance Team – Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction) team was on the scene for a serious crash investigation until about 4:15 p.m. At least one victim was apparently still in one of the vehicles while an extended crash investigation was underway.
The first fire crew on arrival reported two vehicles with heavy damage and one vehicle upside down.
An extra rescue squad from Arlington Heights was dispatched at 7:51 a.m. to assist with extrication and patient removal, but their response was canceled by 8:00 a.m.
The first patient was extricated by 7:59 a.m., and the extrication time of the other patients was not initially known. At least one patient was injured — transported apparently with non-life-threatening injuries by paramedics to a nearby hospital. Two ambulances were assigned to the call, and no extra ambulances were dispatched.
Rand Road (US-12) is closed in both directions just north of Central Road and just west of Mount Prospect Road. Rand Road was re-opened by 5:00 p.m.
