Crash with Minor Injuries in May 2014 Caused Village Hall Power Outage and Canceled Village Board Meeting
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Lake Zurich responded about 4:45 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2021 to a report of a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Main Street and Lions Drive in Lake Zurich.
Police discovered the driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle in a severely damaged 2011 Ford sedan. Lake Zurich paramedics pronounced a male victim dead at the scene via communications with their base hospital. The identity of the man was not initially released pending pending notification of next of kin.
Initially investigation indicates that the driver of the Ford sedan was traveling southbound on Lions Drive when he lost control, crashing into two electrical boxes and a brick wall at 70 East Main Street.
The crash scene is located at a T-intersection with a curve on Main Street, where the Speed Limit is posted 25 MPH. Lions Street involves a curve before the T-intersection, and the Speed Limit is 30 MPH.
The fatal crash is under investigation and no further information is available.The Lake Conty Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was assigned to the investigation to assist Lake Zurich Police Department.
Main Street between Old Rand Road and Route 22 was closed for an extended on-scene crash investigation, and the area of Lions Drive and Main Street were closed until ComEd crews complete electrical equipment repairs and restore power to the area. Power at Lake Zurich village hall was expected to be restored by noon, but as of 12:15 p.m. ComEd indicated 16 customers were affected by a power outage with an estimated restoration time of 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2021.
On Monday, May 19, 2014 at Main Street and Lions Drive a man was able to walk a from a crash with a utility pole, an electric box and a flag pole near village hall at the same intersection.
