Arlington Alfresco Street closures in downtown Arlington Heights will go into effect Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 4:00 a.m. as the 2021 season for the outdoor dining zone opens on Friday, March 12, 2021.
Last year Arlington Alfresco opened from June to November to permit outdoor dining in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to help the restaurant businesses that were otherwise limited to pickup delivery business. The Village Board of Arlington Heights agreed in January 2021 to renew Arlington Alfresco regardless of whether indoor dining was permitted or not for 2021.
In order to account for the possibility of significant snow and snow removal operations, Arlington Alfresco will not feature the fencing and decorations until mid-April. Instead ropes and standards will provide the bordered areas that separate pedestrian traffic from outdoor dining areas.
The street dining area could last until November 2021, but the date is not finalized as it may depend on whether the annual Taste of Arlington Heights and Million Dollar Block party will be held end of Summer 2021. Last year the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The fate of the Million Dollar Block party is also tentative due to the closure of the Arlington International Racecourse following the 2021 horse racing season.
