Railroad gate and signal control repair in frigid weather at Evergreen Avenue and Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights. YouTube Tips ⓘ
Arlington Heights police responded about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021 to a report of malfunctioning train gates at Evergreen Avenue and Northwest Highway. An Arlington Heights patrol officer from a nearby beat worked in frigid weather to provide safe passage. The gates kept going up and down with signals intermittently activated while no trains were in the area.
At least two trains passed in the time period while the gates were malfunctioning, but the gates did go down while the trains approached and passed. Union Pacific railroad workers arrived in a short time and replaced a malfunctioning electronics card that is involved in sensing and controlling the gates and signals.
