A house fire at the scene where two of the home’s only residents lived was intentional, according to Inverness Police Department. The origin of fire occurred in a bedroom at the back of the house, but officials are not certain who started the fire, and the cause of the start of the fire is not initially confirmed.
The bodies of Mario Pieracci, 84, and Marlene Pieracci, 82, were discovered while firefighters were attacking a fire at the house in the block of 200 Bradwell Road in a neighborhood northwest of the intersection of Palatine Road and Ela Road. Palatine Rural Fire Protection District firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the scene at 4:48 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2021.
Mario Pieracci was found about 5:05 p.m. in a living area of the house and had died of smoke inhalation. Marlene Pieracci was found about 5:30 p.m. inside a vehicle in the attached garage of the home where there were no fire conditions. She died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and her death was ruled a suicide on Monday, February 1, 2021 by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The findings of the fire investigation will determine whether Mario Pieracci’s death is ruled a suicide or homicide.
Inverness Police Chief Bob Haas, Palatine Rural Fire Protection District officials, and the State of Illinois fire marshal held a meeting among themselves to discuss the ongoing investigation today, Tuesday, February 2, 2021.
