Waukegan police, firefighters, and paramedics responded about 6:45 a.m. Valentine’s Day, Sunday February 14, 2021 to a 9-1-1 report that a man’s ex-wife was found unresponsive inside a vehicle in the block of 500 Lakehurst Road at The Lakes of Found Square Apartment Homes complex in Waukegan. On arrival police found the woman’s body inside a white sedan, and a paramedic determined the woman was dead at the scene.
After questioning Jose A. Alvarado-Ramirez and investigating the scene, police charged the Waukegan male resident with the Valentine’s Day murder of his ex-wife. Police did not initially release the circumstances that led to the homicide on the far north side of Waukegan near Park City.
Jose A. Alvarado-Ramirez (aka Jose Alberto Alvarado) was charged with first-degree murder in the death of the woman. Waukegan Police characterized her death as a homicide related to domestic violence, and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the first-degree murder charge.
An autopsy conducted Monday, February 15, 2021 determined the preliminary cause of death was penetrating sharp force trauma. The victim’s identity was not initially released pending notification of her family.
The Major Crime Scene Unit and Waukegan Criminal Investigations Division (CID) detectives were assigned to the case.
Jose Alberto Alvarado lives in the same block where the vehicle and body were discovered.
Jose Alberto Alvarado, age 31, appeared in Lake County bond court Wednesday, February 17, 2021 where he was ordered held in lieu of $2 million bail, and is scheduled to appear in court on March 9, 2021.
