Illinois State Police and firefighter/paramedics from Rolling Meadows, Palatine, Arlington Heights and Schaumburg responded about 11:34 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 to a report of a crash with entrapment on northbound Route 53 near Kirchoff Road.
Firefighter/paramedics worked with extrication tools to free a person from a crashed vehicle. At least one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Early Sunday morning a total of three people were reported to have been killed in the crash. Later on Sunday an additional person died. At least one other person was injured.
One person was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The crash involved a blue Ford sedan and a black Jeep. Police had been searching for the Jeep immediately after the driver was suspected to be a DUI driver in a report received shortly after 11:00 p.m. and about 30 minutes before the fatal crash occurred.
Northbound Route 53 was blocked between the Kirchoff Road exit and Euclid Avenue until around 4:40 a.m. Access to northbound Route 53 was also blocked at Algonquin Road and Interstate 90.
