Police, firefighters and paramedics responded about 1:15 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2021 to a report of a crash involving an ATV in the backyard of a single-family home in the block of 100 Fieldstone Drive.
On arrival, police and paramedics discovered two crash victims described as teenagers that were bounced off a large tire inner tube that hit a tree in the backyard as the inner tube was being pulled by a 4-wheel ATV over snow-covered ground.
Both teens were ejected off the inner tube into some trees where there is an open field area in the neighborhood behind the house just north of Monaville Road and east of Cedar Lake Road. One of the teens was unconscious and required rescue ventilation to assist with breathing.
After Advanced Life Support treatment by paramedics at the scene, the unconscious teen was transported from the scene to LEC (Lindenhurst Emergency Center) about 1:44 p.m. for transfer to a LifeNet helicopter and subsequent transport to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois.
The second teen was transported to an undisclosed hospital by a Lake Villa Fire Department rescue ambulance, which was dispatched to the scene about 1:32 p.m.
The driver of the ATV cooperated with the police investigation, and no charges are expected to be filed.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was assigned to assist the investigation of the ATV-related incident.
