Following a thorough investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, an arrest was made in the December 8, 2020 double homicide which occurred in Beach Park. On January 12, 2021, Lake County Sheriff’s detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Timothy D. Triplett, Jr., 34, of the 2100 block of Georgetown Lane, Waukegan. The arrest warrant was for two counts of first degree murder in the homicide of Carlos Rodas Perez and Mercedes Rodas.
On January 13, 2021, members of the sheriff’s office arrested Triplett at his home without incident. Triplett remains held in the Lake County Jail on $5,000,000.00 bail and is due in court for an initial hearing this afternoon.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “Two lives were violently and senselessly lost last month at the hands of another. I am very proud of our detectives for their relentless pursuit seeking justice for a husband and wife who were murdered. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims.”
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Beach Park Fire Department firefighters and paramedics responded about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2020 to a residence in the block of 10000 West Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, for a report of a person down. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a 49-year-old female and a 52-year-old male in the garage of the residence. Both victims appeared to have gunshot wounds.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies attempted life-saving measures, however they were unsuccessful. Both victims were subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
Lake County Sheriff’s detectives responded to the scene and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy on both individuals has been scheduled for Thursday.
