The Apple News feed has been reported to be errantly posting startling headlines from old news stories as if they are fresh news. The errant feeds have occurred at least twice in the last two months. The most recent false news feed occurred Saturday, January 23, 2021.
Two news stories were posted on Apple News Saturday night, January 23, 2021 according to a tip received from a CARDINAL NEWS reader. After reading the Apple News headline, the reader was concerned that there was a recent home invasion in Arlington Heights.
The errant headline regarding a home invasion was a re-post of a headline and associated news story that was published in April 2020 that occurred on North Evergreen Avenue in Arlington Heights. The home invasion news in Arlington Heights was reported in April 2020 on CARDINAL NEWS, but the Apple News feed reposted Saturday night a Chicago Sun-Times article from April 2020.
A sexual assault in a wooded area in Arlington Heights that occurred in July 2020 was also errantly posted on Apple News on Saturday night, January 23, 2021. The news of the brutal sexual assault in Arlington Heights was also reported on Cardinal News on July 2, 2020. The rape occurred July 1, 2020.
