Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Grayslake FPD firefighters and paramedics responded about 9:05 a.m. January 20, 2021 were dispatched to a traffic crash with injuries on Rollins Road, just west of Drury Lane, in unincorporated Lake Villa in Avon Township. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found two vehicles involved, one with severe damage.
The driver of a 2004 Subaru WRX was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene, having been ejected from the Subaru. The driver of the Toyota was uninjured.
Preliminary investigation indicated that a 2004 Subaru WRX, driven by an 18-year-old male of Round Lake Beach, was traveling westbound on Rollins Road. Based on the damage at the scene, it appears the driver of the Subaru was traveling at a high rate of speed. The damage to the Subaru WRX is best described as disintegrated. The driver of the Subaru lost control of the vehicle and went into a slide. The Subaru struck an eastbound 2008 Toyota Tundra, driven by a 36-year-old male of McHenry.
A witness at the scene reported the 18 year-old was ejected even though he was wearing a seatbelt, apparently due to the forces involved in the impact.
The crash was located at the border of the Grayslake Fire Protection District and the Lake Villa Fire Protection District.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy is being scheduled for the driver of the Subaru.
The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. The Speed Limit on Rollins Road is 45 MPH according to Google Maps Traffic Layer. Rollins Road is a 4-lane highway with a non-raised vehicle-width center median.
