Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies, and firefighters and paramedics from Wauconda Fire District responded about 8:05 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at approximately 8:05AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Route 60 and Wilson Road, Wauconda Township, for a traffic crash with injuries. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found three vehicles were involved, one of which was a dump truck.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2018 Chevrolet Trax was traveling southbound on Wilson Road approaching Route 60. According to witnesses, the driver of the Chevrolet, a 24-year-old male of Ingleside, did not stop at the stop sign and pulled into the path of a westbound Peterbilt Semi-Truck pulling a trailer, driven by a 50-year-old male of Berwyn. The Peterbilt struck the Chevrolet and then struck an eastbound Ram ProMaster Van, driven by a 59-year-old male of McHenry.
The driver of the Ram ProMaster Van was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the Ram ProMaster Van, a 31-year-old male of Kenosha, Wisconsin, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Trax was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Peterbilt was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy on the driver of the Ram is being scheduled.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
Route 60 is a two-lane rural highway that intersects Wilson Road at a T-type intersection. The Speed Limit on Route 60 is posted 55 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View image captured October 2019.
