Lighthouse Point firefighters and Broward County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the intersection of Northeast 49th Street and US-1.
The female driver of a sedan that hit a crossover SUV, and the man in the SUV were killed. The man was waiting at the intersection on US-1 for the red light to change to green.
Surveillance video from a nearby business captured the fatal crash on camera. The driver of a white SUV stopped at a red light at the intersection, and was hit by a vehicle traveling at high speed southbound on US-1 smashes.
A good Samaritan pulled her daughter out of the burning car, before the fire reached the passenger compartment.
The driver of the speeding car was Dana Raymond, age 34, who died from blunt force trauma. According to Nikki Raymond, her daughter was on disability for a liver ailment, and may have had a medical issue behind the wheel. She also said her daughter was driving a friend’s car.
Surveillance video also captured a secondary crash when an unmarked law enforcement vehicle blocking of the southbound lanes of US-1 on Northeast 49th Street was hit by a car. Initial there was no report of on any injuries in the secondary crash.
