Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies, firefighters, and paramedics from Antioch responded about 12:00 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2020 to a report of a crash with injuries at Route 173 and Converse Road, Antioch Township.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Antioch firefighters and paramedics arrived and discovered a trapped driver in a 1990 Peterbilt Semi-truck and a Trinity trailer that was being pulled while loaded with approximately 25 tons of granular sludge. Both the cab and trailer showed major damage.
Firefighters and paramedics worked with extrication tools to free the truck driver from his crashed vehicle. The driver was extricated from the cab by firefighters and paramedics and was transported to the Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, where he later was pronounced deceased.
Preliminary investigation shows the driver of the Peterbilt, a 72-year-old male of Woodstock, was traveling westbound and began veering to the left for an unknown reason. The Peterbilt crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck a guardrail on the south side of the roadway. The Peterbilt continued west and the trailer rolled, spilling its load. The truck and trailer partially jackknifed.
The McHenry County Coroner’s Office was in the process of scheduling an autopsy early Tuesday.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
