Police and firefighter/paramedics from Crystal Lake responded about 7:24 a.m. Monday, December 21, 2020 to a report of a crash with ejection at 5100 South Route 31 in Crystal Lake.
A second ambulance was dispatched by 7:27 a.m. as an extra precaution due to the severity of the crash.
Upon arrival police, firefighters, and paramedics discovered a Pontiac Vibe that struck a pole, and the driver ejected into the roadway. The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was traveling southbound on Route 31 and left the roadway for an unknown reason. The Speed Limit on Route 31 is 40 MPH according to a Google Street View image captured September 2019.
Route 31 was closed Monday morning while the Crystal Lake Accident Investigation Team gathered data at the scene. The Crystal Lake Accident Investigation Team and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office are continuing with the investigation.
