Round Lake police responded about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 to the Chase Bank, 1271 Illinois Route 134 in Round Lake to a report that the driver of a pick up truck was attempting to steal an ATM machine followed by possible accomplices. The driver of the truck fled the scene, heading westbound while pulling the ATM with a chain. A white sedan was reported to be following the truck.
Upon arrival, Round Lake police officers discovered an ATM lying in the roadway near Town Center Drive and Fox Trail. Police officers located a pickup truck that matched the reported description in the vicinity, unoccupied. Additionally, a police officer observed the white sedan occupied by three subjects in the immediate area of the pickup truck. The driver of the sedan fled from the police officers and ultimately crashed off the roadway in the block of 500 Fox Trail.
The three occupants in the white sedan fled the vehicle into a marsh area. A multi- jurisdictional perimeter was established. The Lake County sheriffs office canine unit DAX responded to the scene and conducted a track. The canine located a male driver sedan hiding in the marsh area, he was taken into custody.
The male driver remains in custody with the Round Lake police department pending further investigation. The other two vehicle arguments have not been located at this time.
