A minor train derailment in Plainfield, Illinois just before 4:08 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2020 caused several roadblocks, but no injuries were reported, according to the Plainfield Police Department.
About 4:08 p.m. Friday, the Plainfield Police Department was notified by Canadian National Railway that a locomotive had partially derailed in the area of Naperville-Plainfield Road and Michigan Street, according to a Plainfield police news release.
The following roadways have been impacted by the train blocking railroad grade crossings:
• Naperville-Plainfield Road near Michigan Street
• Route 126, or Main Street, east of Route 59
• Center Street, south of Route 126
• Eastern Avenue, south of Route 126
• Lockport Street, near Miles Street, east of Route 59
The Interstate 55 exit at Route 126 was also closed because of the partial train derailment.
The railroad tracks run southeast to northwest in the area. Closures persisted to midnight Friday/Saturday.
Due to a railroad grade crossing incident, there are currently multiple crossings in town that will be blocked/inaccessible for an unknown period of time. Naperville Rd/Michigan, Route 126, Center St, Eastern, and Lockport St east of Rt. 59. Please avoid the area.

Update on railroad incident: Route 126 east of Route 59 remains closed at the RR crossing. It is expected to reopen early on Saturday. All other roadways are now open. Thank you for your patience

“Motorists are asked to avoid those areas as traffic congestion is expected to last for several hours while the train is removed,” police said.
