Police are searching for four suspects who stole several firearms from a sports store in Winthrop Harbor (Julian Crews/WGN News).
Winthrop Harbor police responded about 12:33 a.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2020 to an activated burglar alarm at the Outdoorsman, 221 Sheridan Road in Winthrop Harbor. Police upon arrival discovered the front entry door shattered, which allowed entry into the gun store.
Winthrop Harbor police officers requested assistance from the Zion Police Department and determined after searching the store that the offenders had left before the first responding officers arrived.
Detectives from the Winthrop Harbor Police Department determined that multiple display cases were breached, and approximately thirty-nine firearms were stolen — including handguns and rifles. The initial investigation determined that multiple offenders quickly entered the store and exited a few minutes later with the stolen guns. The offenders fled in a dark-colored SUV, northbound on Sheridan Road toward Wisconsin.
Multiple display cases inside the store were broken and five rifles, two shotguns and 32 pistols were stolen.
