In less than one week since a fatal shooting victim was discovered at a home in Hoffman Estates, police homicide investigators have announced a teen murder suspect in the shooting of a Hoffman Estates male victim that was shot in the face on Tuesday morning, October 27, 2020.
A 17-year-old male suspect faces first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery charges in the fatal shooting of a Hoffman Estates man last week, police announced Monday morning, November 2, 2020.
According to Hoffman Estates Police Department, an investigation indicated that the teen suspect and his victim, Roberto Avila-Juarez, age 20 of the block of 200 West Berkley Lane in Hoffman Estates, knew each other. Police stated the homicide was not a random crime.
The identity of the teen suspect was not initially released, and the juvenile suspect has been turned over to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center. His next court date was pending Monday morning.
Police and firefighter/paramedics from Hoffman Estates responded about 11:43 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2020 to a report that a male victim was found with a lot of blood at the scene at a house in the block of 200 Berkley Lane in Hoffman Estates.
Police received a report that a person or a number of people arrived at the home and found the victim just before they called 9-1-1. Police responded and discovered a mortally wounded shooting victim, and determined the scene was secure. The offender had fled the scene prior to arrival of the police. The victim was discovered dead at the scene, according to Hoffman Estates Police Department.
Hoffman Estates police immediately began investigating the scene in a ranch home in a residential neighborhood just southwest of Higgins Road and Roselle Road. The crime scene is also located about 1,000 feet southeast of the Hoffman Estates Police Department Headquarters. The Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) forensics unit assisted Hoffman Estates police in their investigation. The crime scene is located in Cook County.
On Wednesday, October 28, 2020, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office announced that a male found at the scene in Hoffman Estates was a victim of a homicide with a gunshot wound to the face. Initially the identity of the gunshot victim was not released.
