Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters and paramedics from Beach Park Fire Protection District responded about 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2020 to a report that a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on Green Bay Road north of Waldo Avenue in Beach Park.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies on arrival found an unconscious 76-year-old man of Beach Park. The pedestrian suffered significant injuries as a result of the crash. Beach Park Rescue arrived soon after the first-responding sheriff’s deputies.
The pedestrian was transported to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan via Beach Park ambulance. Shortly after arriving at the hospital the man was pronounced deceased. The Lake County Coroner’s Office was contacted and is in the process of scheduling an autopsy.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2003 Cadillac Seville, driven by a 23-year-old female of Beach Park, was traveling northbound on Green Bay Road just north of Waldo Avenue. According to witnesses, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the street from the west side of the roadway to his driveway, which was on the east side of the roadway. As he crossed, he was struck by the northbound Cadillac.
Following the on-scene crash investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit, the crash investigation is ongoing. At the crash scene, Green Bay Road is a two-lane rural highway with a Speed Limit of 45 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View captured September 2019.
