Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched about 9:40 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2020 for a report of an intruder inside a residence in the block of 12700 West 28th Street, Beach Park.
While Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were en-route to the residence, sheriff’s emergency telecommunicators learned the caller was home with her five young children. She locked herself and her children in a bedroom, because a man who was unknown to her appeared to be attempting to gain entry into her home. The man, later identified as Jose Herrera, Jr., 23, of the 300 block of North Green Bay Road, Waukegan, broke down a door and entered the home.
When inside the home, Herrera repeatedly yelled, “Where is she at?” Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Zion Police Officers arrived on the scene and took Herrera into custody. He was transported via ambulance to an area hospital, as he sustained injuries to his arms and legs while forcing his way into the home.
Herrera was not known to anyone inside the victims’ residence.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
— Lake County Sheriff’s Office
