Police and firefighters and paramedics from Chicago responded about 7:37 a.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2020 to a report of a fire in a high-rise at 1 East Erie.
Engine 98’s crew on arrival reported about a 40-story mixed used high-rise with nothing showing. Truck 3 arrived at the front of the building.
A Still and Box Alarm and an EMS Plan 1 was activated at on orders of Battalion 1 by 7:43 a.m. for a fire in a high-rise.
Fire apparatus was staged at Ohio and State. Paramedics staged at Erie and Dearborn.
There was a fire on the 5th floor with Engine 98’s crew leading out with one line to extinguish the fire. All companies were working with light smoke conditions in the hallway at 7:54 a.m. The north stairwell was designated the Fire Attack stairwell, and the East Stairwell was designated the evacuation
Initially no injuries by 7:54 a.m. by EMS command. Paramedics were staged in the lobby and the evacuation stairwell.

With water on the fire, the fire was declared out by 8:06 a.m. The secondary search was complete and negative by 8:06 a.m. and firefighters were working on final washdown. Announcements were made over the building’s public address system.
The Still and Box was struck out and the EMS Plan 1 was secured by 8:16 a.m. on orders of Deputy District Chief 2-2-1.
