McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters from Union responded about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2020 to a report of a fire in a barn at a farm in the block of 6300 McCue Road in Union.
Firefighters on arrival reported fire showing with a section already collapsing.

A MABAS Division 5 Box Alarm #5-1570-95 was activated for “tenders only” at 9:34 p.m. The Box Alarm was upgraded for tenders only at 9:46 p.m.; and a Change of quarters fire engine was requested at 9:49 p.m. A Walworth fire engine was assigned. The Tender Box struck out at 10:05 p.m.
Firefighters from Crystal Lake and Genoa-Kingston were assigned mutual aid with Union firefighters on the first level box alarm.
Firefighters from Burlington and Wonder Lake were assigned mutual aid with Union firefighters on the second level box alarm.
The population in Union, Illinois in McHenry County is about 600. Union is located about 40 miles northwest of Arlington Heights, and about 60 miles northwest of downtown Chicago.
Tenders were used to shuttle water to portable tanks, and the water from the portable tanks supplied water to fire engines pumped water to the fire.
All animals escaped except four goats that perished in the fire.
A 2-story dairy barn, 50×24 square feet was destroyed by the fire.
