Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Team apprehended Deon L. Brown, 27, of the 1600 block of Sunset Avenue, Waukegan on October 19, 2020. Brown, a convicted felon, was wanted for Armed Robbery and Aggravated Robbery, and discovered to be a crime partner with another suspect previously arrested in Kenosha.
Members of the Lake County Sheriff’s warrants team developed information Brown was at home and they approached his apartment complex. As members of the warrants team approached the complex, Brown saw the team and he fled on foot. He was subsequently apprehended by members of the warrants team, with the assistance of a Waukegan Police Department K9 Team. When arrested, he was found to be in possession of a loaded pistol magazine.
Brown’s arrest warrant stems from two armed robberies sheriff’s detectives connected him to which occurred on August 30, 2020, in Beach Park. One armed robbery occurred at the Citgo Gas Station (38512 North Sheridan Road, Beach Park) and the other at the 7-Eleven (37763 North Green Bay Road, Beach Park).
Evidence collected by a sheriff’s evidence technician and a thorough investigation by sheriff’s detectives led them to determine Brown and Cortez K. Thurmond, 29, of the 4100 block of Seadragon Court, Great Lakes, together committed both robberies. Sheriff’s detectives obtained arrest warrants for Brown and Thurmond on September 17, 2020.
Thurmond was previously arrested in Kenosha County and held on the arrest warrant. He was transferred to the Lake County Jail on October 2, 2020, where he is being held on $250,000.00 bail. Thurmond is next due in court on October 27, 2020 at 1:30PM in courtroom T110.
In addition to the charges contained in the arrest warrant, Brown was also charges with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and resisting arrest. Deon Brown is being held in the Lake County Jail on $250,000.00 bail. Deon Brown is due in court on November 11, 2020 at 1:30PM in courtroom T110.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
